Ranch Casita
The casita we built for our family and guests was designed to complement the ranch house while adding a modern twist to its existing aesthetic. Our priority was to repurpose materials as much as possible, aligning with our sustainable approach. To create a bright and open atmosphere, we incorporated high ceilings and large windows throughout the casita. This design allowed ample natural light to flood the space, providing a warm and inviting ambiance while showcasing the stunning views of the ranch. In terms of materials, we utilized barnwood, Shou sugi ban, and metal salvaged from a historic Prescott theatre. The barnwood added a rustic charm and a sense of authenticity to the casita, connecting it to the surrounding environment. Shou sugi ban, a traditional Japanese technique of charring wood, provided a sleek and contemporary look, contrasting beautifully with the aged barn wood. The metal from the historic Prescott theatre served as a unique and fun backsplash. This incorporation of historic elements not only contributed to the casita's distinctive character but also honored the local heritage. By combining these materials and design elements, we achieved a bright and airy guest space that seamlessly blended with the ranch house. The casita became a harmonious extension of our home, offering a unique and comfortable environment for our family and guests to enjoy.
